Mark Leonard was sex on legs and a witty man to boot.

well, he's not necessarily crippled. he could have just been sitting in the wheelchair because he was still recuperating from his injuries.

(ok, even i'm not sure if i really believe that.)

Everyone misses Mark Lenard's hotness. He had the perfect craggy/angular face for a Vulcan, especially circa ST III.

Yah, if they wanted to have more points of correspondence between the reboot and the original, they could have picked something else. On a completely shallow level, Pike inna wheelchair probably isn't even that well remembered from the old series.

Oh, so true. At least we finally agree on something.

As for crippling Pike, my mom and I had a VERY long discussion about that and we don't think he was paralyzed at the end of the movie. Just injured. That's our story and we're sticking to it until canon proves otherwise.

PS. I've always thought Bruce Greenwood was a total fucking hot ass and EEEEEEEE SO HOT AS PIKE!!!!!!

if kirk went from being a cadet to a captain within three days i would really have to kill someone.

mark lenard played sarek, spock's father, otherwise known as The Hottest Vulcan Evah.

They don't make Vulcans the way they used to.

i had a theory that anything with sarek in it was automatically good, but maybe that only works if sarek is played by mark lenard (see also: star trek v).

don't forget his beautiful voice, either.

On a completely shallow level, Pike inna wheelchair probably isn't even that well remembered from the old series.

it's remembered enough to be a joke in a doctor who/star trek parody (with pike compared to davros). so, familiar to people who watched the original series, but probably not people who just watched the movies.

yeah the only way i was able to enjoy the movie was by constantly reminding myself that it was an alternate universe. even then, i only thought that it was so-so.

WHO WOULDN'T AGREE WITH THAT? ONLY PHILISTINES.

they still went, "oh yeah, pike was in a wheelchair in the show, LET'S PUT HIM IN ONE FOR THE MOVIE TOO LOLS". plus, if he's still recovering from injuries that means kirk is promoted from cadet to captain in the space of a few days, which is... awful.

but yeah, bruce greenwood was a sexy pike. good work, casting.

I watched the original series, and even I didn't remember about Pike being crippled until I read your post. (I mean, I wasn't as much into the original series as you were/are, but I did definitely see the episodes with Pike.)

well, pike was promoted to admiral, so we know that he's not the captain of the "enterprise" anymore at the end of the movie. i'm almost certain that we're meant to think that kirk was promoted to captain of the "enterprise".

s'truth. they did a better job than most of the spin-off series ever did, though.

yes, he's obviously promoted to captain of the enterprise at the end of the film, but we don't know exactly how much time passes between the destruction of the romulan ship and kirk's promotion. it's obviously not long but even a few weeks would be better than a day or so. not much, but still.

ok, i must have misunderstood your previous comment. sorry!

i'll just keep telling myself that it was at least a few weeks before he was made captain...

I am choosing to believe Pike will recover with time (it's onyl been a few weeks since they dug the bug outta his spine), and not suffer Pike Prime's fate, me. Cos if they can gene sequence human/vulcan hybrids, they can so grow him a new spine in a jar.

I'm going with 3-4 weeks, in the fanon inside my head. The novelisation syas all the remaining upperclassmen go back to classes, thus implying they still have to finish out the term before graduating and receiving commissions.
