Okay--I think I get it, now. It would have worked better for you if it hadn't resembled the eels, but been something different, which accomplished the same thing (i.e. as the truth serum, which also resulted in the same injuries)?

yeah, they were already torturing pike, they were going to get the information one way or another. so why bring in the space eels unless there was a reason? it's like having shop dummies come to life in a doctor who episode but not because of the autons -- why reference it then?
