The time that something like that happened to me, I had to get a dose of muscle relaxant from the university's nurse-practioner.

Do you have any way to get muscle relaxants? If not, a heating pad or hot water bottle would be the best thing I could suggest. It might not do as much as relaxants, but it might unlock your neck.

I'm so sorry D: I've had this kind of back/neck pain, and it sucks. A lot.

1) Do some range-of-motion exercises (basically, slowly moving your head back and forth, or up and down -- light neck stretches) in a hot shower.

2) If you cannot get muscle relaxants, heavy doses of NSAIDs will work, too. Just be careful to take them with food. Seriously, three or four ibuprofen tablets at a time won't kill you as long as you're only taking them every now and then as opposed to on a regular basis.

3) Heating pad, if you have it.

4) Rolled-up towel at the base of your pillow. This will give your neck something to rest on while you sleep.

DDDD:

Fill a sock with rice, warm up in the oven, wrap around neck? It's a simple way to make a heating pad that won't cool down right away.

I hope you feel better soon!

Extra strength advil and keeping warm usually work for me. Do you think you might need a doctor?

ETA: You can make a microwavable heating pad with rice and a sock.

This - I was going to suggest the sock trick, but [livejournal.com profile] drho beat me to it.

Heat, heat, heat any way you can get it, and ibuprophen if you can take it. Worst case scenario, wet a washcloth and stick it in the microwave for 45 seconds.

oh, remember when the same thing happened to me last year? my doctor said that i had strained the muscles in my back/neck. the only things that helped me were a heating pad and muscle relaxants (although the latter also made me sleep a lot). also, obviously take it as easy as you can, and rest as often as you can. don't carry anything too heavy if you can avoid it. i hope that you feel better soon! :(

D:

Everybody else has already got the hot pad suggestion covered (though if you don't have makings for a sock version, I'd… recommend asking any female friends you may have), but, er, I have e-hugs?

What happened?
