Sherlock Holmes!!

As I mentioned before, BBC7 is playing Sherlock Holmes every weekday now (they are my heroes again for this valiant act). I just listened to The Blue Carbuncle, which was quite good, until I got to the last two minutes, which were BRILLIANT. Oh, go and listen to it. Even if you don't listen to the whole thing, listen to the last couple minutes (starts about 40 minutes in to the recording), because well, guh.
It really is a fantastic example of all that the Granada series could never do, because they never married Watson off to Mary. Here's a bit of the dialogue I've written up. What I would normally say is, you should go and LISTEN TO THE AMAZING ACTING, but they seem to have removed CARB from the playlist as the day has already switched over there. Curses! You'll have to supply the best part yourself then:
Watson: "Well done, Holmes."
Holmes: [dismissive noise]
Watson: "No, I mean it. There he was, off to his family and friends... did my heart good."
Holmes: [sarcasticly] "I await with interest your heart-wringing prose version."
Watson: [exasperated] "Oh really, Holmes, can't you let it drop for a second?"
[weighty pause]
Watson: "... Well, I must be getting home. It's, ah, certainly been a Christmas Eve to remember, and tomorrow I dare say I'll even find the children tolerable.
[lengthy, awkward pause]
Watson: [rubs hands for warth] "Ah well, good night then."
Holmes: "Watson, wait."
[long pause]
Watson: "...Holmes?"
[longer pause]
Watson: [as bell begins to toll midnight] "Good lord... I had no idea it was so late. Early."
Holmes: "Watson."
Watson: "...Holmes, this is damnably rude of me... but, well, I know you dine very late, as a rule..."
Holmes: "Ah... absolutely true, doctor. [weak attempt at humour]Are you about to tell me that I'm ruining my digestion?"
Watson: "Actually, I was, I was wondering if Mrs. Hudson might stretch to providing for two."
Holmes: "For two?"
Watson: "Mary will have gone to bed hours ago, the whole household... I realise it's a dreadful imposition."
Holmes: "...I believe I can tolerate it."
Watson: "Thank you, Holmes."
Holmes: "Thank you, my friend."
And here is the site for all future (and other past) episodes. Go! Listen! You will be happy to have done so!
