have not seen the most recent episode of "class" but have seen the first two. day drinker twelve was amazing. the show itself seems fine - well-done YA genre that I would have loved as a teen and that i am currently liking well-enough but without the doctor who element it would probably be one of those shows i'd keep meaning to get to while it spent years on my netflix queue. however, i would like to thank the producers for the frequent shots of topless ram.

back to pcap: he is very gorgeous and twelve and bill look amazing together??? i am SO looking forward to their episodes, and also looking forward to some more interesting people maybe getting involved with fandom again once there's some space for people who aren't interested in ignoring every character who isn't white. despite the fact that i did ship it (until it was ruined for me, first by fandom, then kind of by the show) whouffaldi fandom VERY quickly turned into an unwelcoming, unfun place. i don't derive pleasure from aggressively calling out shittiness, racism, and general badfic (SO MCUH BADFIC OMGGGGG) so i basically just withdrew from fandom aside from old friends and a couple of new ones even though i was actually enjoying doctor who more than i have in a long time.

I LOVE TWELVE. i love him. that is all for now.

i will always bitter about them RUINING "the thick of it" fandom with so much terrible badfic and not just that but like. using a REAL LIFE humanitarian crisis like the syrian refugee crisis as the backdrop of a story to give malcolm more angst?? shouldn't everyone have learned their lesson with that supernatural RPS where the dudes fuck on top of the ruins of haiti after the earthquake and the authors were rightly EXCORIATED for it? just, ugh.

The state of ttoi fandom is rough--so many ooc fics? So much ignoring Nicola, so much weird characterization--but man that one fic. I'd liked the first chapter bc it hit like every idfic note i wanted but I had to nope out of there so fast once the refugee crisis became a thing in the story. Idk it was so uncomfortable, and yeah the Haiti big bang fic was one of the first things I'd thought of reading it

but like in general I also feel like shit like that flies more often in fandom now? As though the reaction to calling out everything (a complaint I was on the periphery of, as I was out of fandom for a while) is to say everything is all right no matter what. Which obviously it isn't

I've decided to binge Class when it's done, partially because I didn't love the Coal Hill episodes of Twelve's era (AHAHAHAHAHA BLACK MEN CAN'T TEACH MATHS, THEY MUST BE THE PE TEACHER AHAHAHAHAHAHA) and also because I'm deep into DS9 and having trouble stopping for shows I actively enjoy, like Elementary. But I keep hearing it's not bad, and also that it has a Snape-ish, Cranky Lady Character, so it's on my list.

thankfully, since graham "better check those refugee children's teeth to make sure they're not adults TRICKING US INTO CARING ABOUT THEM" roberts is nowhere near this series it has so far completely lacked any of those little writing quirks of his! the backstory behind ms. quill and peter has the potential to be gross but so far it's treading the line without falling over and i'm willing to give it time to see if there's something interesting that can be done with the premise. i mean, i'm not hopeful. but it at let did not have the doctor co-signing onto her deserving punishment for being a freedom fighter, so we'll see.

DW fandom peaked in 2007, y/y?

2007-2008 had some FANTASTIC fic writers, that's probably the best we've had so far. i think other aspects of fandom have done well (podcasting, vidding, fan art), but fic and meta and general discussion have stagnated for sure. now that tumblr is waning and we'll have a POC in a main role again, maybe there's room for some new, exciting blood.
