somehow i have just become co-mod of a new community, [livejournal.com profile] whoisms, which is for talking about doctor who and various isms. you know what i means by isms -- stuff to do with race, sex, class, gender, ableism, queer stuff, trans stuff, and all that kind of jazz. also intersectionality! that would be the word you could inscribe into a bat and then hit over my head if i was ever to say something like, "i can't have said something racist, don't you know I'M GAY?" which, by the way, i would never say because as far as i know i'm not a complete fool.

so obvs you should join. right now we are talking about people thinking the doctor could never be a woman because he is "essentially male" omg. because there is such a thing. oh wait no there isn't.

I'm joining, but oh, this is going to be bad for my blood pressure...

Ditto. I want to be supportive, but unmoderated membership and unlocked posts will attract unpleasant elements.

i'm certainly not going to tolerate assholic posts/comments, both because that goes against the idea of the comm, and because i just don't have patience for them, so if unmoderated posting/membership ends up being a problem it will be changed. until then, we'll see.

Could I members lock a post, if I decide to post one?

of course! i'll make a note in the userinfo to reflect that.

It's certainly going to attract a certain someone who thinks we're all Wrong on the Internet. But locking would also feed persecution complexes.

I thought about those issues, but I don't want to keep out people who might be hesitant to join an unmoderated comm. In the event of wank, that will change.

if current policies end up having bad effects on blood pressure, they will be changed. i say this not only for regular members but for myself.

Nothing in the policies, or I wouldn't have joined. But the topic is going to bring up high feelings sooner or later, no matter how politely phrased.
