if he's still recovering from injuries that means kirk is promoted from cadet to captain in the space of a few days, which is... awful
well, pike was promoted to admiral, so we know that he's not the captain of the "enterprise" anymore at the end of the movie. i'm almost certain that we're meant to think that kirk was promoted to captain of the "enterprise".
