hey, emerging authors on my flist, i am totes available to draw the main characters in your next novel to make sure that you hold the copyright on them! for a small fee, obvs.

anyway, i am off to create a tribute sequel to "watchmen", and then sell it for money. it's cool, alan moore and i are both mature adults.

Because a beautiful angsty teenaged vampire boy in love with a sooper-speshul teenaged human girl is such an INCREDIBLY RARE THEME in recent YA anyway that she couldn't just write a proper "original" ripoff? Pffffffffffft.

I KNOW. she probably could have found an actual publisher and everything! people are making bank on shitty teen vampire/werewolf rip-offs right now.

"she probably could have found an actual publisher and everything!"

Just the other day someone on my flist was complaining about literally half the YA section at her local bookstore being teen vampires angsting about the senior prom, so, yeah. F for effort, lady, really.

obviously it will be about rorschach's woobie manpain, and how he finally finds true love which fixes all of his mental and emotional problems.

ROFL--I got wind of this windbag today, and I feel like a Very Bad Person for hoping that she actually does get sued so that I can use this as an example in my fall class.

i don't see how she won't be sued. so your class will be a success!

I had a John Smith/Professor Yana story in mind for some future date when the Booshfic isn't eating my brain, I bet I would have to pay you lots of money to agree to illustrate that. :-D

From: [identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com
i'd go all holmes and say, "the work is its own reward! ...but i need an advance file of the fic." and then email you saying, "why is there not more porn?"

damn, do you think i could get more people to write the fics i want if i offered to illustrate them? because i would fucking do that. i need more drawing practise incentives anyway.

Yes. It seemed to work for [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang, which had a much higher completion rate than I would have expected.

i was tempted to sign up for the artist section of that ficathon, but i really didn't want to end up getting assigned to a story that i didn't like. lame but true. :(

Date: 2009-03-26 03:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elliptic-eye.livejournal.com
Not lame, reasonable. I have no art skillz, but I'd imagine that if I got assigned to illustrate a fic that didn't do it for me, I'd feel all guilty and miserable for turning out… something that showed it didn't do it for me.

Plus the bit about having to read the fic, of course.

If you draw Derek Jacobi and Alex Kingston, does that mean we own them? I'll have to make up the spare bedroom, but I'm sure I can find room for them somewhere ...

i have this feeling that it will end fairly abruptly when the law gets involved, since the case os so cut-and-dried, but anything's possible. especially is smeyer does another authorial flounce of "how could my fans doooooooo this to me???? I'M NEVER WRITING ANY MORE TWILIGHT EVER! UM... AGAIN."

What kills me is that the first line in the description of Russet Moon is "After the twilight, a new moon is obscured by an eclipse." So immediately you can tell that this one is gonna be a MASTERPIECE!

That one made my day, yeah.

Oh, oh! Could you draw the characters from some of my fanfic? No, not the original ones, but I'm thinking that if drawing = copyright, then if I have somebody re-draw them, then I'll have a copyright claim on my own, special version. Right? Right?
