so when i was in chicago a few weeks ago i was talking to my friend tamas about demos. and then a few days ago i was wandering (virtually) around youtube looking at demos. i think i got there by way of looking for some doctor who 8-bit remix (there's one on youtube that says it's an nes version of the theme but it does NOT sound like an nes tune to me). demos are made when a crazy nerd loves an old computer system very very much... anyway i found these demos and i thought they were awesome:

robotic liberation by pwp. it's about robotic liberation! also it's a 16k demo for the commodoore vic-20.

doctor by trilobit. it's about taking your medicine when you're told. also it's an 8k demo for the atari 2600.

Eight-bit music. Nothing like it. *grins, likes the first one best*

"robotic liberation" probably looks a HELL of a lot better running on a vic-20 emulator than it does with the crappy youtube compression, but i've been lazy and haven't downloaded one yet to try it out. i should because i loooove the robot voices so much. i ran the "doctor" rom on my atari emulator and it looks gorgeous. sadly, it has a tendency to get a bit buggy, which is probably because i'm on a mac and some of the mac emulators aren't as stable as their windows counterparts (fewer people working on them, for example). i've had that problem with my sega genesis emulator -- it runs any official roms fine, but occasionally gets a bit shirty with homebrew stuff.

i was trying to find a recording of one of my favourite demos, "demotronic" by the 1.000.000 boys, for the gameboy colour, but there don't seem to be any. if you've got a gameboy emulator you should check it out, though -- there's a dl for it here (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=7175).

I missed the whole gaming revolution -- darned parents keeping the computer for typing words -- and was left with no clue how to run those things and a passion for word-based games, but it's fun to hear the old stuff being discussed by an avid fan. And the music. THE MUSIC. *thumbs-up*
