Friend away, please; but I must say that most of my lj-friends are people whom I actually know, and the rest are those whom I have spoken to enough through AIM, email, or on the phone, etc. to somewhat know. I usually have limited internet access, so I try to keep my friendslist streamlined. I usually drop in on the journals of people who have friended me and make random comments when the mood strikes, however. Er, a long way of saying feel free, don't be offended if I can't reciprocate. And feel free not to as well, of course.
