Well, stylish writing without a good story and characters behind it is kind of like whipped cream without the hot chocolate to put it on. The whipped cream makes everything better, but the chocolate is the essential part.
(The coffee shop where I work just started carrying really fancy yummy hot chocolate with whipped cream... it comes up in all my conversation now...)
