purple and does it get better

yah, i'm wearing a purple shirt right now. but i didn't for most of the day, because i had to work, and we have a dress code. of course it doesn't matter much, because literally no one who i work with or who would have visited the store today would have either 01: heard of spirit day or 02: really understood or cared about it. thus is the pattern of most internest "activism". does wearing a certain coloured shirt actually do jack shit to help LGBTI people? no, of course it doesn't.

this is an overly long intro to an excellent essay that one of my best friends wrote today on these issues, and also the current "it gets better" campaign (which i think is wonderful, but i'd never say anything is immune from thoughtful critique or analysis).
