SAVE US SWEET TINKERBELL JESUS

a clip from the rex is not your lawyer pilot has surfaced:

the absolute atrocity that is tennant's atempt at an american accent almost distracted me from how shit the writing was. almost.

Glenister's I found awful-awful, like I cringed every time I heard it. Tennant's is making me grin stupidly at the badness. (Do not worry, I judge myself lots.)

I think Tennant's accent could improve with time -- it's noticeably bad with Rs and some vowel sounds, but I think he'd have gotten there eventually if "Rex" had been picked up. And apparently I am willing to forgive a shitty accent if I can watch him being pretty.

Glenister's ... I don't think any amount of time would have helped that. I've never heard anyone who managed to sound like he was from all fifty states before. It was colossally bad.

possibly, but that would have required a bunch of american execs to have heard that accent and not laughed their heads off, but think, "we need to bank lots and lots of money on this nasal, ferrety-looking guy! like, RIGHT NOW! do it!!!!"

my hypothesis is that this did not happen. soz, dave.

You're probably right. NBC was pretty desperate for new shows at that point, but that accent is not good -- not to mention the whole premise of the show was flawed, IMO.

(Now, if you want to hear a flawless American accent from a DW actor, I suggest checking out the teaser trailer for Undercover, which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and which NBC did pick up.)
