"I'm moving on from Doctor Who now, but I'm not from the Sarah Jane Adventures and from Torchwood. It's like, we just started work on series four of Sarah Jane yesterday, actually."

go here if you'd like to hear the interview: front row 29/06/2009. the bit in question is at about 3:45.

lis sladen intimated it was likely to be the last series when she was at chiTARDIS. i personally thought it was likely, because RTD is moving on and the craziness that has kept doctor who so popular that it's able to float itself plus two drama spinoffs (torchwood and SJA) and two factual shows (doctor who confidential and totally doctor who) is just not going to be sustainable forever. i figured the changeover would be an elegant time to start winding it all down, instead of waiting for things to start dropping in the ratings and losing populairt and *having* to be cancelled.

but apparently TW was the highest rated drama on bbc3 and bbc america, SJA is highest rated drama on cbbc, and doctor who itself is still incredibly popular, so the bbc probably wants to keep them going for as long as possible, especially in the current economic climate. i think at this point it's all up to russell t davies and whether he wants to keep working on them; if he leaves either show that'll be the end of it.

Or if [spoiler] survives Ten's finale (and she likely will), she and her grandfather can become part of the SJA cast like I've ALWAYS DREAMED.

from the interview it sounded like... yes. he said he felt an obligation to the casts to keep working on the shows (i.e. if he left they'd be cancelled). dunno if he had to persuade the bbc to keep TW and SJA alive or he wouldn't be a happy welshman, or whether the bbc was like "pls stay! pls keep making SOMETHING for us, we'll even let you work on those two weird spinoff things if you want!"

supposed to be this fall sometime, i'm pretty sure. they just finished up filming late last month, i think.

according to another interview (http://blogs.thestage.co.uk/tvtoday/2009/06/torchwood-week-russell-t-davies-part-1/) with RTD sarah jane was still filming when the press preview of CoE happened a couple weeks ago. so it might be over by now but it might be still be filming.

it's definitely the one with the most consistent quality; although the good episodes aren't as good episodes of doctor who, the bad ones are nothing like as bad.

plus it has the brig which means it wins.

I'd say still filming, considering that Sonic Lippy just got another casting spoiler just this week. But if they're already planning for a Season 4 it means that there's a good feel in the BBC to keep it going - and it puts paid to the rumor that RTD was stomping off the sets of Torchwood and SJA like a kid taking his ball home if he didn't have Doctor Who to play with.

it is probably the best of the franchise at the moment!

Totally agree! It can't depend on dazzling us with special effects or plastering over plot problems with sex or violence, and thus it actually has to *tell a story* and usually a good one, too.
