I just listened to the last Sherlock Holmes story on BBC7 -- The Retired Colourman. In print, it hasn't that much to recommend it, but the Coules adaptation was one of the best episodes; funny, interesting, and incredibly poignant. If you care at all about Sherlock Holmes then you must listen to this episode!

It seemed as if The Lion's Mane, which aired a few days before, was just as good, but I haven't got the chance to listen to it properly as yet.

Also: I now have ALL 56 short story episodes RECORDED. Oh yes!! Now for the BBC to air the two hour novel adaptations... and of course Coules' own original Further Adventures (oh please do it BBC you know you want to).

I entirely agree on HOUN -- the story must be cursed; nobody can seem to make a proper adaptation of it no matter how hard they try. But I will say this; when I heard the first episode, I was disappointed, but when I heard the second my faith in Bert Coules was renewed. There was a stumble but he picked it right back up! I'm trying to remember how they recorded the series; HOUN may actually have been one of the first stories the adapted, although I may just be confusing it with the Roger Rees version.

Streambox, eh...? *makes note* I've got a mac, so iTunes seems to take just about anything it can play and record it in a CD playable version if you want. I apologise for mentioning iTunes, because it is lame, but still, it had to be done.

The first series of Further Adventures has one of my favourite episodes EVER -- Holmes as a very young man before he's definitely decided on detection, back when he is hanging about the Reading Room at the British Museum all the time and reading everything he can -- Tom Baker plays a librarian who is a semi-mentor to him! So good.

If you'd like to do a bit of episode swapping, that would be neat. Tell me which episodes you missed from His Last Bow -- I should have them all.

And yes; Williams and Merrison are the embodiments of goodness. It really can't be said too many times (to me, at least).

What I remember from The Radio Detectives: The Voice of Sherlock Holmes was that they started with Adventures first. And when the series was broadcast, it became very popular, and so they decided to adapt the whole canon.

Streambox is quite good and user-friendly. One useful features is that if there's a big file to download, say 100 MB, you can stop anytime you want, for example, after 50 MB, switch off the computer and continue later.

Whoo! WireTap is quite awesome for me, but if I find myself in need I shall check out Streambox.

I'm leaving Chicago in about a half hour for St. Louis; then I will have to find some way of getting to a place that has wireless access, because I only have a laptop -- and then the fun shall ensue! I have both BRUC and DYIN, so I can send them to you whatever way you like; I'm not familiar with yousendit -- would that be a good way? I could send them to you via email, but probably only one at a time, and only if you have enough available memory. Or I might try uploading them to my school server... (not sure if that is possible, but it may be if I use the portal). Anyway, SOMEHOW IT SHALL BE DONE. Because you not having heard DYIN? Is a tragedy of immense proportions.
