Well actually... Watson is the narrator in all of these stories, and the guy who calls Holmes an ass is actually Victor Trevor (Holmes' only friend from college, he's in The Gloria Scott). This one was a bit of a "What If... Victor Trevor had never moved to India" type of thing. Because I like Trevor. And the way he and Holmes became friends because of his dog attacking Holmes' leg.
