distributing ourselves

my friend, jonCates, giving a short talk earlier today on social and other kinds of networks, historicity, feminism, radicalism, new media, [before a panel kicking off the College Art Association conference, called Distributing Ourselves: New Media Art, Curating, Networks, and Collaborations]:

argh so close yet so far!!

paterson joseph has confirmed he *was* under consideration for the eleventh doctor after all. i'm unsurprised, obviously. i think anyone who was paying attention to the way the media was spinning the rumours at the time had plenty of reason to believe they were true.

BE: You mentioned “Doctor Who” a minute ago. How much truth was there to the rumor that you were under consideration to play the Doctor?

PJ: (Hesitates for a very long time) Uh…a lot.

BE: Really? I wasn’t sure, because you never know about these things.

PJ: Yeah, a lot. But I can say no more.

still no word on the logistics of how we ended up with matt smith instead -- how far along negotiations with jospeh got, who withdrew (or whether it was mutual), etc. at least we know the bbc was willing to consider a black actor in the role, even though we didn't end up with one; and piers wenger, moff and co. didn't have a plan to try and cast a tall, lanky, big-haired white boy from the very beginning.

yeah, i am looking forward to s5 and smith and gillan and everything, but i cannot lie, i'm still missing our chance at paterson!eleven and a non-white doctor. :( here's hoping for twelve.

o hai guys i made some t-shirts

more shots under the cut! )

and more of this one too! )

i made these just before chicago TARDIS in november; these two particular examples are my shirts, but i made a bunch of other ones as well, and sold a few at the con. gallifrey one is coming up pretty dang soon, and so i'm planning on making some more and bringing those as well. so, if you're interested, drop me a comment so i have an idea of how many to make/bring! (other helpful info: which design you prefer, and general size of shirt required). they're going for fifteen dollars each. each colour is a separate layer, btw. the TARDIS ones i kept mostly uniform, but i put a little variety into some of the silurian shirts ([livejournal.com profile] jigglykat bought one where i used gold paint for the claws and eyes instead of yellow, for example, and in a few i dropped some of the layers to make the silurian look more stark).

what better way to proclaim your appreciation of sentient machines and your hatred of fascism than a lovely stenciled t-shirt? have you been wondering how to express your love for intelligent reptilian species from the mesozoic era? why not wear a t-shirt that makes your position clear!

meanwhile, if i was to design a third shirt, what would people be interested in? i've got some silver spray paint, so i was thinking a cyberface, but i'm not sure. i'm open to suggestions!

if there's anyone who's not going to gally but feels the overwhelming need for an earth reptile on their chest, let me know! i will set up some paypal thing with a few extra bucks to cover shipping.

even kitties love these shirts! um, to sit on. but still! (btw please excuse the general crapness of these photos -- my regular camera decided to die and i had to take these photos with my cell phone, which doesn't capture colour nearly as well or vibrantly).
