the next doctor (for real!)

New Doctor Who to be announced on special episode of Doctor Who Confidential this Saturday.

THAT IS TOMORROW MY FRIENDS TOMORROW. O___O!!!

eta: apparently it has been retitled "the eleventh doctor" (it had previously been titled "the ten doctors"). omg guys!

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG WAS THAT YOU OVER THERE ENTHUSING ABOUT SHERLOCK HOLMES THROUGH TIME AND SPACE? YES! i was hoping it was someone i knew, i was going to tell them to PM me sos i could find out!

i am possibly distracting myself by being shirty at racist-commenting anons over at the bunker. WTF "positive discrimination"? jesus.

[identity profile] elyssadc.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy hell, I wish they'd just announced it instead of announcing that they were going to announce it. I honestly don't give a flying fuck who they chose, but the WAITING is horrific.

Re: and also

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
before the straw man arguments and the completely not understanding how racism works cause some anon who is totally not me to lose their temper.

like me, you mean? but seriously: OF COURSE THE 'FLOPPY-HAIRED WHITE PRETTY BOY' (THAT YOU DON'T RECOGNISE ISTANTLY, SO HE MUST BE A TALENTLESS CASTING-COUCH FUCKTOY). right, because anyone in that thread said anything like that ever. dude, the original comment wasn't about whether ben wishaw is a good actor. it's about whether white privilege exists. guess what? IT DOES.

eta: now the anon is declaring me too irrational to debate with. lols.

ahahahaha it's only been like three hours!! to be fair, they announced it literally the day before the broadcast, quite probably to keep the wank down (not in fandom, i'd presume, but the general media). if they hadn't announced it at all, a bunch of people wouldn't bother watching, SO i think it's an all right strategy.

HE MUST BE A TALENTLESS CASTING-COUCH FUCKTOY

Yep, that was totally what I the OP said. Or anyone else.

It's always hilarious, in a completely unfunny way, to watch people lose their shit over someone pointing out that racism exists.

[identity profile] elyssadc.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
For THEM, maybe. But not for me. Ok, I'll reword. I wish I hadn't known about this today and could have just turned my computer on tomorrow and seen "NEW DOCTOR ANNOUNCED" or some shit. I don't want to know this today, man. I have NO patience. You know that. ;-)

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
AH AM SORRY AH TEXTED YOU. D: i forgot about your dearth of patience in my excitement. pretend this is ALL A DREAM. i had a bunch of doctor who dreams last night. and a muppet babies one. OMG I FORGOT. i had a dream with YOU in it a couple nights ago. it was also a doctor who dream. i forget exactly what happened but at one point we both had to jump off a building. i assume there was an exciting and awesome reason for this. i think the building may have been the eiffel tower. i forget how doctor who was involved at that particular point. i might have been the doctor? i dunno. i was on the run and you were helping me. YOU WERE MY FAITHFUL COMPANION PERHAPS? i think you pushed me off of the tower.

[identity profile] elyssadc.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, psycho-pants. And there is no way I was your faithful companion. I think I definitely pushed you off the tower. But only if it was to get the Doctor all to myself, unless of course it was the Tenth Doctor because he'd be all yours. Or the Fourth. I probably just would have pushed HIM off the tower.

[identity profile] biichan.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
YES THAT WAS TOTALLY ME. I, like, found the book at the library when I was a teenager and it was so awesome and I finally scored a copy of my own through ebay this year. I love awesome short story collections.

The first change of Doctor was like totally minor to me.

i was definitely into who enough to be concerned about whether i would like tennant as much as eccleston, but also not into it enough to be actually worried. i figured they would cast someone who would be fairly good, no matter what, and even if i didn't like him as much he would still be fine. which... is what i still think now, actually. hmm. but! if it's someone i LOVE i will be so much more happy than i would have been last time. and i don't have any doctors i actually loathe, so i figure the worst that will happen is that i will be a bit "meh". and there is fic to fix that. i even like jack sometimes in fic.

I was interested in the show, but the DVDs cost too fricking much and I didn't have enough hard drive space to download episodes on my old computer.

downloading! back when i was a lad we had to request VHS tapes from the public library, and sometimes they were on the other side of town! actually, back when i was a lad i had no doctor who at all. :( but when i was a young adult there was BBC america playing old who every morning at 8:00 am. well, for the few months we had digital cable. then later was the chicago public library system! the cover for paradise towers was always too fantastically bad for me to take it out. i still haven't seen it.

I stumbled upon it in Wikipedia at random one day and I was all, oh, hey, isn't that the guy they've got to play Barty Crouch?

so was i! that didn't really convince me it was the best casting ever, since he was a bit... bad in it.

*FLAILS WITH YOU*

[identity profile] kels.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
i would no even have known about this if you hadn't posted, so thank you!

*squee*!

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
well, if really was dreaming i was ten, then i'm sure you pushing me off of the eiffel tower made sense. except you were doing it to help me somehow, i remember that. hmmm.

But only if it was to get the Doctor all to myself

if it's seven i will fight you for him. that's all i'm saying.

Or the Fourth. I probably just would have pushed HIM off the tower.

YOU'RE ANTHONY AINLEY AREN'T YOU

I AM ALL A-FLUTTER WITH EXCITEMENT

Seconding this very, very strongly.

*reads the threads* Wow, someone should point out to her she can still masturbate to the happy Ben-thoughts all she likes even if he's not cast, the Evil Flying PC Squad is hardly stopping her.

"oh god i don't think i can deal with a whole new boatload of teeny-bopper fans PLS BBC DON'T MAKE IT HAPPEN."

It would be disgustingly cynical casting, besides being just...boring. I really hope it's not true.

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Eep eep eep! So exciting! :D This is my first Doctor-shift since I got into the show. ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN.

(Guess who's got [livejournal.com profile] who_daily tomorrow? Heehee.)

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN.

omg what if I'M the doctor??

Guess who's got who_daily tomorrow? Heehee.

i would laugh, but after a moment's thought i'm actually slightly concerned! don't get buried in wank, my friend.

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
how can she ever be happy, knowing that people like us are out there, not caring about hot white boys enough. HOW?

It would be disgustingly cynical casting, besides being just...boring. I really hope it's not true.

i really do think he's too physically similar to tennant for them to cast him. they've never cast a doctor who looked at al like the previous one -- they've always done their best to make them totally new and different. well, within the white british male spectrum. but still!

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
"how can she ever be happy, knowing that people like us are out there, not caring about hot white boys enough. HOW?"

It's why all the pretty white boys are so emo, they know we don't care enough and it makes them HURT INSIDE.

"i really do think he's too physically similar to tennant for them to cast him. they've never cast a doctor who looked at all like the previous one -- they've always done their best to make them totally new and different. well, within the white british male spectrum. but still!"

I would tend to agree re there being too much surface similarity, but then I have such a terrible prediction track record for this show I don't want to make any actual guesses.

[identity profile] biichan.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
omg what if I'M the doctor??

Dude, the picture in your profile's all beardy. OBVIOUSLY you're the Master.

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
omg i wish the picture in my profile was me, because then i would be stephen jay gould AND I WOULD BE AN AMAZINGLY AWESOME EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGIST. although... i would also be dead. so that would be a problem. on the other hand i would also apparently have dinosaur skeletons in my front room, so it might be worth it.

that said i do not mind being the master, as that means i get to have homoerotic subtext with whoever is playing the next doctor. i am all for that.

*goes nnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggghhhhhh*

I'm not sure I could actually watch.

[identity profile] prof-pangaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I WILL BE WATCHING THE HELL OUT OF IT. probably also yelling and jumping about. yes!
